Last Breath Taken

Last Breath Taken, starring Jon Comis the guitar, lead vocal; Mike Testa, Lead Guitar; Julia Aponte, drummer; Isaac Walton, bass. The style of music they play is Christian Alternative Rock. A local band in Staten Island is playing November 30, 2007. They started in May 2006. Their first show was at a church called Faith Fellowship in New Jersey. They're first show on Staten Island took place at Dock St on Oct 14th 2006. After plenty of shows & a growing fan base Last Breath Taken hit the studio to release their self titled EP. They will be playing this friday.

Iceland Named Best Country to Live In

Iceland has overtaken Norway as the world's most desirable country to live in, according to an annual U.N. table published on Tuesday that again puts AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states at the bottom. The Top countries are Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada and Ireland which are the first five and U.S goes from 8th place to 12th place.

Rob Zombie: A Musician, Film Director and Writer.

Robert Cummings or better known as Rob Zombie was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts in January 12, 1965. Rob Zombie is a musician, a film director and a writer. He is known as the founder, lead singer and song writer for the band White Zombie. Through out his career he has sold about 15 million albums. Rob Zombie’s first work was the song “Hands of Death” (Burn baby burn). He formed his own solo band in 1998. He releases his first album called the Hellbilly Deluxe. It sold 3 million copies and his most famous songs from the album were living dead girl, Super beast and Dragula. His second album was called the Sinister Urge in 2001. It was more experimental and some of his singles included Never gonna stop me, Feel so Numb and Devil Speeding. His third album is called Educated Horses. His first Horror Film was a house of 1000 corpses which took 4 years to make. The Devils Rejects is another film which was released in 2005; another film which was produced and directed by Rob Zombie was Halloween and Werewolf women of SS which were released in 2007. Another one is the haunted World of El Superbeasto a forthcoming film which is based on comic series. White Zombie was a great band. It was an American Band which was named after a film called White Zombie in 1932. The Lyrics weren’t about real life but about horror fantasies. It was a noise rock band; it was known for its heavy metal music and often influenced by satanic imagery and horror films. White Zombie was disbanded after Rob Zombie released his album called Hellbilly Deluxe in 1998.

Diwali

Diwali (deepavali) is a Relgious holiday in India celebrated usually by the hindus and the jains. It is a very big holiday and most populat holiday in India, its basically a festival of lights. Everything is usually decorated with lights, candles, diwas. It is taking place on November 10, 2007 it is usualy on different dates around October or Novemeber. There are several beliefs regarding the origin of the holiday. The most repeated version is that Hindus celebrate Diwali to mark the time when Lord Rama Achieved victory of Ravana. The Sanskrit word Deepavali means an array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. As the knowledge of Sanskrit diminished, the name was popularly modified to Diwali, especially in northern India. In South India, Diwali does not coincide with the beginning of a new year they have a different calendar which is the shalivhana calendar. Uusually on this day everyone lghts up candles and gives each other sweets and basically celebrate and have fun.

Oriental Dance

Belly dance or in other words Oriental Dance is a great dance. It originates from The middle east and other arabic regions. It became more popular in the 1890's. Belly dance is not only about the belly but its about full body movement from head to toe. Belly dance improves self esteem and body image. It's also another way of working out your whole body in a fun way. It helps increase flexibilty and strength of muscles. Belly dance is not actually physical excercise, but it is a beautiful art. Its an activity that allows you to dress beautifully like in a beautiful belly dance costume. The costume is usually a long skirt a short blouse or bra leaving the belly area exposed and a scarf over the head and sometimes a lot of jewlery. Many Ignorant people compare belly dancing for exotic dance and have their bad comments about it. Belly dance is a great art, its a great activity to learn. Usuallybelly dance involves rythmic dance with moving a lot of body parts. It is performed to rythmic music. Its a beautiful art and there is so much to it than just moving your hips.

Being a college student

College is much different than high school. I think its great for the most part. There are many acticvities here at St. John's University, great opportunities to meet new people and even join a sorority or a fraternity. But it makes it a bit harder when you have to concentrate on your work also. In the beginning it was pretty hard for me to catch up, and get my assignments on time. It makes it even harder when you have a job, you need time for friends and family and other activities. College has been pretty stresful for me but you have to figure out how you can have time for all these things. The best way for me was to write everything down in a planner. Im still trying to catch up and get used to it. You just have to focus on your work rather than other things because we should know that we all came here to get our education. We all have to know that we came here because it was our choice.
